A bit of History - Berlin

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on German history, so...

During our time in Berlin we joined thousands of other tourists and tried to pack as much into one day as possible, here's a series of images we captured that should give you the gist.

Selections of the Original wall with accompanying documentation, Potsdamer Platz Berlin

Look closely and you'll see the stone paving which you can follow through the centre of Berlin, this represents the original position of the Berlin Wall

One of the longest remaining stretches of the Berlin wall, outside of the original SS and Gestapo headquarters, Berlin

The deterioration of one of the longest remaining stretches of the Berlin wall

The Jewish Holocaust memorial, near the brandenburg gates, Berlin Germany

Looking up at the Brandenburg gates, Berlin Germany

A very busy Checkpoint Charlie (the sign on the right is not actually the original) Berlin Germany

Army Officiers (they're not real) posing for photo's with tourists at Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Germany

Seeing these sites in person really does put things into perspective, to think that Berlin was divided so strongly only 22 years ago is quite amazing. We only had one full day to check out Berlin and to be honest it really is not anywhere near enough. I would recommend to anyone interested in visiting Berlin to put aside at least 3 days. It really is a very intriguing and beautiful city.
