Champagne.. Yum

Here are some pictures from our visit to France's Champagne region. We visited the caves at G.H. MUMM, Veuve Clicquot and Moet Chandon.

First up was G.H. MUMM and in my opinion they had the best Champagne we tasted from all three houses.

The entrance to G.H. MUMM.

There are many Champagne houses located within blocks of each other in the centre of Reims. Just round the corner of G.H. MUMM we stumbled upon KRUG another producer of high quality Champagne.

After a short walk you arrive at the main office and entrance to the G.H. MUMM caves.

An example of the different sized Champagne bottles all of which are available for purchase.

The bottle they use on the F1 podium to celebrate a race win is called a Jeroboam, this bottle holds the equivalent of 4 standard 750ml bottles.

One of the many under ground tunnels that make up the G.H. MUMM cellar network.

The network of tunnels are ideal for storing Champagne as the temperature remains at approximately 10-12 degrees all year round. In addition to this there is a lot of natural moisture around due to the 'chalkyness' (boxall please correct me on the actual term for 'chalkyness') of the soil above.

The cellar masters private collection of vintages dating back to the mid 1800's.

Veuve Clicquot HQ.

To be honest, Veuve Clicquot was not that impressive, unless you're female, ditzy and are into bright orange everything.

Dom and I, about to enjoy a bottle outside the home of Moet Chandon.

Dom Perignon Magnums, the flagship of the Moet Chandon Champagne range.

More Dom Perignon Magnums, for some reason these seemed to be owned by someone called Julio?
